DXC Technology isn't anyone's idea of a glamour stock. The legacy IT services firm has been restructuring for years, its 200-day MA sits at $12.57 while the stock trades at $10.16, and there's a law firm sniffing around for investor claims. So why are we selling puts here? Because sometimes the best trades aren't the prettiest stories — they're the ones where the math works and the downside is already priced in.
The trade: short the $10.0 put expiring July 17, collecting $0.31 in premium with 9 days to go. That's a 3.1% return on capital at risk over nine days if DXC stays above $10. Annualized, that's a number that makes your savings account look embarrassed. The delta sits at -0.412, which means the market currently gives this strike roughly a 41% chance of finishing in the money. Not a layup, but not a coin flip either — and we're getting paid to take that risk.
The $10 strike is meaningful technically. DXC's 50-day MA is at $9.71, meaning the stock has been building a base above that level and just recently climbed through $10. We're selling a strike that sits below current price with a moving average acting as a cushion underneath. IV at 61.2% is elevated — that's what happens when a stock has been through the wringer — but elevated IV is exactly why the $0.31 premium exists on a $10 strike with the stock at $10.16. The market is scared; we're cashing the fear check.
The Pomerantz investigation is worth acknowledging. Securities class action fishing expeditions are more common than people realize — firms routinely send these press releases after any notable drawdown — but it does introduce headline risk over the next nine days. On the other side of the ledger, DXC just opened an AI-first customer experience center in Bengaluru, which at minimum signals the company is investing in the narrative that matters right now. The Seeking Alpha piece arguing long-term targets are achievable gives some fundamental cover too. Analyst consensus target is $11 — not far from here, and directionally constructive for a short put position.
The P/E of 100.4 looks alarming until you clock the 0.1% profit margin and realize this is a turnaround story being priced on hoped-for earnings normalization, not current results. That's not our problem at the $10 strike with nine days left. Watch for any material legal developments on the class action front and keep an eye on whether $10 holds as support — that's your early warning system if the trade starts working against you.
